In July 2024, Tāiki e! took 11 rangatahi to Festival for the Future, Aotearoa’s largest youth conference, for three unforgettable days of inspiration, learning, and connection. With thousands of young leaders from across the country in attendance, the festival offered a platform to explore solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing our generation. Rangatahi were immersed in thought-provoking kōrero from speakers at the forefront of innovation, social change, and climate action, while participating in interactive workshops designed to build leadership, resilience, and confidence.

Beyond the festival, the journey was filled with enriching activities that gave our rangatahi a deeper understanding of leadership, creativity, and collaboration. We visited Parliament, where they explored the Māori Select Committee room, gaining insight into the processes of governance and how indigenous voices shape decision-making at a national level.

In Masterton, we toured the Fab Lab, a cutting-edge innovation space, where rangatahi explored digital fabrication tools and creative problem-solving. This was followed by a stop at Māoriland in Ōtaki, where they connected with inspiring rangatahi using storytelling and arts to amplify indigenous narratives.

A highlight of the trip was our visit to the Todd Foundation, where our young leaders learned about their mahi supporting communities for the past 52 years, sparking ideas about the long-term impact of social change. To add a touch of fun and teamwork, we wrapped up the trip with an escape room challenge, which not only strengthened bonds within the group but also inspired concepts for a similar experience in Tairāwhiti.

This journey was a life-changing opportunity, equipping our rangatahi with knowledge, networks, and experiences that will empower them to lead and create change in their own communities.
